SIFF Capsule Review: That awkward moment when you and your girlfriend break up and then you find out she’s in the hospital, comatose, and you’re forced to hang out with her parents who hate you while she hangs on, selfishly unaware, for dear life.

The Big Sick is one of the must-see movies of the summer, with star and co-writer Nanjiani establishing himself as a comedic force to be reckoned with. The movie is both funny and heartfelt thanks to strong chemistry between the cast, which includes Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter and Ray Romano. Its only weakness is an unnecessary sequence of scenes at the end that draws out the inevitable, but otherwise, the film is near flawless.
