Warning: There are spoilers ahead for the season finale of Titans

The first season of Titans left former Robin, Dick Grayson, in a very dark situation. But there may be some hope on the horizon. After the credits rolled, fans were treated to a glimpse of a familiar figure breaking out of a Cadmus laboratory alongside a super-powered dog. The canine in question is Krypto, while the kid with the Superman emblem on his shoulder is Connor Kent, a.k.a. Superboy.

Titans showrunner Greg Walker briefly spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the reveal, and he indicated that wasn’t always his plan to bring Superboy into the series.

“It wasn’t totally planned from day one — or maybe it was in [Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman’s] heads, but they didn’t tell me,” said Walker. “It definitely wasn’t something that we thought of until the very end. I think we knew that would be a direction that would be exciting for the fans and a tease that would be interesting for us as well, and that was the best spot to put it in.”

Walker also indicated that the writing team is already figuring out how integrate Connor into the show.

“What I can say is that we still want to take the same dimensionalized and psychologically grounded approach that we do with the other characters and apply that same pressure to Conner Kent and see what shakes out when you put a character like that through that test,” explained Walker. “You know, questions of identity, questions of powers, questions of your place in the universe. These are all questions that are interesting for any kind of Superman character, and are really interesting for Conner.”

Titans will return for a second season on DC Universe. However, an official start date has not yet been announced.
