Station Eleven: Gael García Bernal joins HBO Max’s new limited series

According to Deadline, Golden Globe winner Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) has been tapped for a recurring role in HBO Max’s forthcoming limited series adaptation of Station Eleven which is expected to make its debut sometime this year in Spring. He will be joining previously announced cast members Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate) and Himesh Patel (Yesterday), who are both set to lead the series for the roles of Kirsten and Jeevan.

Bernal, who also best known for lending his voice in Disney-Pixar’s award-wining animated film Coco, is set to portray the role of Arthur, a famous actor from a small island off the coast of Mexico. The series will be Bernal latest TV project after more than a year since starring in Amazon’s comedy drama Mozart in the Jungle which aired its four and final season in April 2018.

Based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Emily St. John Mandel, the 10-episode drama series is set in a post-apocalyptic world spanning multiple timelines and tells the stories of the survivors of a devastating swine flu, named the “Georgia flu,” as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world while holding on to the best of what’s been lost.

Davis has signed on to star as Kirsten, a survivor of the pandemic and performer in a post-apocalyptic Shakespearean troupe, with Patel set to play Jeevan, an unemployed lost soul who must rise up to become a leader after the Georgia flu strikes.
