Information and artwork about the spin-offs from the latest ‘Star Trek’ adventure to be announced at the 16th Annual Star Trek Las Vegas Convention.
With Star Trek Discovery less than two months away from its debut, details for publishing support for the latest chapter in the beloved sci-fi franchise are starting to emerge.
Heat Vision has a look at the cover for the first comic book tie-in — and the announcement of a new prose novel tie-in — for the series that will be unveiled at the 16th Annual Las Vegas Star Trek Convention, which runs through Sunday.
New of the Star Trek Discovery comic book series initially broke at San Diego Comic-Con, with series writer Kirsten Beyer co-writing the comic book with Mike Johnson, who’s previously written the comic book series set in the Kelvin Timeline of the recent movies. Tony Shasteen, who worked with Johnson on the recent Star Trek: Boldly Go comic book series, illustrates the new title, which will explore the backstory of key Klingon characters in Discovery.
The Star Trek Discovery comic book series, published by IDW Publishing, launches in October. The cover for the first issue, unveiled at the Convention and exclusively revealed online here, is below.
Also announced at the convention is Star Trek Discovery: Desperate Hours, an upcoming prose tie-in by author David Mack, to be released by Simon & Schuster next month.
The official synopsis from the publisher for the title, reads, “Aboard the Starship Shenzhou, Lieutenant Michael Burnham, a human woman raised and educated among Vulcans, is promoted to acting first officer. But if she wants to keep the job, she must prove to Captain Philippa Georgiou that she deserves to have it.
“She gets her chance when the Shenzhou must protect a Federation colony that is under attack by an ancient alien vessel that has surfaced from the deepest fathoms of the planet’s dark, uncharted sea. As the menace from this mysterious vessel grows stronger, Starfleet declares the colony expendable in the name of halting the threat. To save thousands of innocent lives, Burnham must infiltrate the alien ship. But to do so she needs to face the truth of her troubled past, and seek the aid of a man she has tried to avoid her entire life — until now.”
