Showrunner talks lack of Iron Fist costume in the Netflix series

Speaking with SFX Magazine, showrunner Scott Buck revealed that the trademark Iron Fist costume of the character will not be appearing in the series, saying:

“There was no good reason we could imagine to put Danny Rand in a costume. Because Danny Rand is still discovering who he is as a hero and where he is going to be, so he’s not yet ready to put on a mask or a costume… At the same time he is someone who is rather well known as a billionaire, so he can’t necessarily go out in public and do the things he does without being recognized. It does become an issue for the character.”

Buck did go on to say that that mystical aspects of the Iron Fist comics will still be present despite a grounded tone.

“We’re trying to keep things extremely grounded and real and tell our stories through characters. So the mystical aspect is something we like to hint at, the idea that there is something bigger and larger out there, but we don’t delve into it all that deeply.”

In Marvel’s Iron Fist, billionaire Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

The Marvel’s Iron Fist cast also includes Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones) as Colleen Wing, David Wenham (300, The Lord of the Rings) as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup (90210, Ted) as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey (Banshee, As the World Turns) as Ward Meachum. Marvel’s Jessica Jones star Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, The Bye Bye Man) will also reprise her role of lawyer Jeri Hogarth alongside Netflix’s connector between the shows, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
