Only the Brave trailer: The Granite Mountain Hotshots story comes to life

Sony’s Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer for Only the Brave, based on the group of firefighters called the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Check out the Only the Brave trailer in the player below (via GQ).

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion), the film features an ensemble cast of actors including Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, True Detective), Miles Teller (Whiplash, The Spectacular Now), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Sicario), Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, True Grit), and Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Requiem for a Dream).

The film tells the true life story of the firefighter crew that lost 19 men stopping Arizona’s Yarnell Hill wildfire in 2013.

“I read an early draft of the script, and wildland firefighting was something I didn’t know anything about,” Kosinski tells the outlet. “You know, their job is so far away from civilization, in many cases. That was fascinating to me. And the approach of this story—taking it from two points of view simultaneously. There’s the guy at the very top: Eric Marsh [Josh Brolin], the superintendent of the Granite Mountain hotshots. And the guy at the bottom: Brendan McDonaugh [Miles Teller], who is just applying for the job. I thought that was a very interesting structure—and being a Midwest kid from a small town, I guess I related to the world of Prescott. It’s a fascinating story, and very different than anything I’ve done before.”

Only the Brave is set to debut in theaters on October 20.
