Once Upon a Deadpool: Details Released on PG-13 Cut

Deadpool 2’s PG-13 cut, now titled Once Upon a Deadpool, will be arriving in theaters for a limited time starting on December 12 and ending on Christmas Eve, Deadline has confirmed.

Once Upon a Deadpool will contain footage from Deadpool 2, but edited down to a PG-13 format which means cutting some of the violence and language. Fans can also expect new footage “in the form of a framing sequence” in the revamped film that Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick devised for the project.

Additionally, the movie will raise money for charity. Reynolds told the outlet: “Because it’s the season of giving, we will also be giving $1 for every ticket sold to F-ck Cancer, which will be renamed Fudge Cancer just for this limited time and campaign.”

Regarding the new cut, Reynolds also said: “Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006. I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

Savage will reprise his role from the 1987 classic, The Princess Bride, in the new framing sequence alongside Reynold’s Deadpool. Eight scenes were filmed for the new footage in the upcoming project, and Savage commented: “While my participation in this film was anything but voluntary, I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab.”
