Walt Disney Animation Studios‘ Moana won the domestic box office for the third straight weekend with $18.8 million for a total of $145 million. Internationally, the animated film earned $23.5 million this weekend and has grossed $93.8 million. Worldwide, Moana is up to $238.8 million. Moana was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. The film features the voices of Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Jemaine Clement, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk.

Paramount‘s new R-rated comedy Office Christmas Party opened close in second place in North America with an estimated $17.5 million from 3,210 theaters, an average of $5,452 per location. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Vanessa Bayer, Jillian Bell, Jamie Chung, Rob Corddry, Abbey Lee, Kate McKinnon, T.J. Miller, Olivia Munn, Karan Soni, Courtney B. Vance, and Matt Walsh, Office Christmas Party was made for $45 million and received a B CinemaScore from audiences.

Dropping a spot to third domestically was Warner Bros. Pictures’ Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them, which earned $10.8 million its fourth weekend for a total of $199.3 million. Internationally, the film was No. 1 for the fourth weekend in a row with $33.1 million from 14,200 screens in 67 markets, bringing its overseas total to $480.7 million. Fantastic Beasts has now earned $680 million worldwide. Directed by David Yates from a script by J.K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts cost $180 million to make and stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, Carmen Ejogo, Jenn Murray, Faith Wood-Blagrove, Colin Farrell, and Zoe Kravitz.

Paramount’s sci-fi drama Arrival earned $5.6 million in fourth place for a total of $81.5 million after five weeks. The Denis Villeneuve-directed film, starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, cost about $47 million to make.

Marvel Studios‘ Doctor Strange rounded out the top five with $4.6 million its sixth weekend to bring its total to $222.4 million. Internationally, Doctor Strange has grossed $423.4 million for a worldwide total of $645.8 million. Made for $165 million and directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton, Scott Adkins, Amy Landecker and Benedict Wong.

Robert Zemeckis’ Allied earned $4 million its third weekend for a total of $35.6 million. Starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, Allied was made for $85 million.

Also, director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, earned a stunning $855,000 from just five theaters. That’s an average of $171,000 per location, the second-highest ever trailing only The Grand Budapest Hotel‘s $202,000. It is also the highest per location average of 2016. La La Land will expand to 200 locations and 40 markets on December 16. The film will expand further on December 25.
