'Game of Thrones': The Final Images From Westeros, for Now

Here’s how the seventh season of ‘Thrones’ wrapped up for the show’s most important characters.

Once upon a time, a certain Westeros-obsessed lunatic (guilty as charged) wrote: “When it comes to Game of Thrones, first impressions go a long way. It’s not an exact science, but closely considering a character’s first scene or two can prove quite useful in predicting their season arc, honing in on individual thematics and otherwise determining theories about what’s coming next.”

Having stressed the importance of first images, this same lunatic would like to stop down and salute some final images. Season seven of Game of Thrones drew to a close little more than a week ago (read THR‘s eulogy for the week gone by right over here), with the eighth and final season far off in the distant future — potentially as far down the line as 2019.

In other words, viewers are left with several final images of Game of Thrones to meditate on in the months and potentially years ahead before the series returns for one last victory lap. For current and future reference, here’s where we left off with the show’s most important characters.

Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen: Last seen having sex, just as the audience is finding out without any shadow of a doubt that they are related by blood. Awkward!

Tyrion Lannister: In further awkwardness, Tyrion’s final appearance of season seven involved him snooping on Jon’s and Dany’s romantic evening. He appears…troubled, to put it mildly.

Samwell Tarly and Bran Stark: The show’s two most cerebral characters were last seen trading notes about Jon Snow, the man now known as Aegon Targaryen.

Sansa Stark and Arya Stark: The feuding sisters set aside their enmities and mutually murdered an enemy, then stood together atop Winterfell, reminiscing about their fallen but not forgotten father.

Littlefinger: The mischievous manipulator smirked his last smirk in the finale, executed at the hands of Arya Stark. Whether or not we see his face again thanks to Arya’s Faceless tactics, this is at least the final look at the man for now.

The Hound: Busy getting his Cleganebowl Hype on.

Euron Greyjoy: Exiting the Dragonpit by announcing his intentions to leave the White Walker war to braver folks, although it turns out this is a ruse; he’s secretly on his way to pick up the sellsword army known as the Golden Company for Cersei’s twisted use.

Theon Greyjoy: Finally embracing both his Greyjoy and Stark roots, Theon beat up another Iron Islander and announced his intentions to rescue his sister from Euron’s clutches.

Brienne of Tarth: In her final scene at the Dragonpit, she implored Ser Jaime to abandon his loyalty to House Lannister and join in on the only war that matters.

Cersei Lannister: Threatening to murder her own brother/lover over his decision to leave King’s Landing and join the White Walker war.

Jaime Lannister: Last seen riding north to join the war against the White Walkers. Brienne will be pleased when he arrives!

Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion: The de facto Watchers on the Wall watched helplessly as the Night King arrived and wrecked the thing to bits.

The Night King and the White Walkers: Last seen blasting so much undead dragonfire into the Wall that they were finally able to cross into Westeros proper. The final season’s deadly stakes have officially been set.
