'Game of Thrones': A Historic Meeting Goes Down in the Trailer for "The Queen's Justice"

The most anticipated scene in ‘Thrones’ history is set to arrive in next week’s episode, based on the preview.

[Warning: This story contains spoilers for the second episode of Game of Thrones season seven, “Stormborn.”]

“I will say specifically the fire and ice thing with Jon and Dany and all of that business … people have seen the lady arriving, with all of her entourage. She’s hitting Westeros. Jon is in Westeros. There’s an inevitability about this that nobody’s fighting. People are coming together.”

These are the words of the eternally wise Liam Cunningham, who stars on Game of Thrones as Davos Seaworth. When he spoke with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the season premiere, Cunningham (not to mention the rest of the cast) made it clear that this would be the year where the disparate characters in and around Westeros would finally start coming together. This week’s episode, called “Stormborn,” certainly lived up to that idea: the hot-blooded Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) has now officially crossed paths with the equally fiery Melisandre (Carice van Houten) for the very first time, paving the way for the Mother of Dragons to finally meet the King in the North.

Really, it will always be an event whenever Daenerys crosses paths with a famous face from Westeros. But there is no single meeting between characters more anticipated than the one between Dany and Jon Snow (Kit Harington), which is set to go down next week in “The Queen’s Justice,” as the trailer for the episode ends with Jon standing before the Dragon Queen. That’s right: we’re officially one week away from two of the show’s most important individuals finally sharing the screen together for the first time in seven seasons. The last time we faced such a historic meeting, it was Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) coming face to face with Dany in season five’s “The Gift.” Well, it’s only appropriate that Game of Thrones viewers receive another gift of the same magnitude, what with winter being here and all.

Beyond Jon and Daenerys’ upcoming meeting, the trailer shows that Tyrion’s plan to take Casterly Rock will move forward, despite what happened to the Iron Fleet. Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) and the Unsullied are seen running through a castle, clashing against soldiers wearing Lannister red. “Cersei knows we’re coming,” Tyrion says in the trailer, but even losing the element of surprise shouldn’t be enough to stop an army of Dothraki barbarians from winning the fight.

The trailer also hints at the fallout from the great sea battle between Euron (Pilou Asbaek) and Yara (Gemma Whelan). No sign of Theon (Alfie Allen) yet, but his uncle is smiling wide as he strides through the streets of King’s Landing, soaking in the glory of his victory. We see him standing in the great hall before the Iron Throne once again. Was his swift defeat of Yara’s fleet enough of a “gift” for Cersei (Lena Headey) to accept his marriage proposal? We’ll see if the King of the Iron Islands gets a promotion in one week’s time.
