A first look has been revealed (via Deadline) at Ethan Hawke reprising his character James Sandin from the original The Purge film in USA Network’s Season 2 finale of The Purge series. Hawke will appear in the cold open of the episode in a flashback scene that takes the story back to one week before the first national Purge Night, the annual amnesty day that allows citizens to kill and victimize others for 12 hours without fear of prosecution.

The official synopsis for the season finale, airing on December 17 and titled “7:01 A.M.”, reads:

“The finale picks up as Purge Night rages on and Esme, Ryan, Marcus, and Ben fight for their lives and their loved ones.”

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s The Purge was released in 2013 and earned $89.3 million at the box office from a $3 million budget. The franchise grew into three additional feature films with a potential fifth movie in talks.

Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse ProductionsThe Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.

The series is written and executive produced by the film franchise creator James DeMonaco and led by Jason Blum. Additionally, the entire team behind the blockbuster franchise ‎are on board to executive produce: Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under the Platinum Dunes banner and Sebastien K. Lemercier. Thomas Kelly serves as executive producer/showrunner of the series. Emmy and Golden Globe® award-winner Anthony Hemingway directed and executive produced the pilot episode.

The Purge stars Gabriel Chavarria, Hannah Anderson, Jessica Garza, Lili Simmons, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell, and Lee Tergesen and will return for its second season which will also feature new cast members Derek Luke, Max Martini, Paola Nuñez and Joel Allen.
