Laura Dern, Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson cast in upcoming Noah Baumbach film

Laura Dern (Big Little Lies), Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Scarlett Johansson (Ghost in the Shell) have been cast in Noah Baumbach’s (The Meyerowitz Stories) new film, according to Variety. Merritt Wever and Azhy Robertson have reportedly also joined the cast. There is no information about the story of the new film, but Baumbach is preparing to write and direct. Netflix will handle financing and distribution. The streaming service is handling the distribution of Baumbach’s current film The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).

The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), which is currently getting notice during awards season, is the emotional and comic intergenerational tale of adult siblings (Sandler, Stiller, Marvel) contending with the long shadow their strong-willed father (Hoffman) has cast over their lives. With an original screenplay by Baumbach, the film also stars Emma Thompson, Grace Van Patten, Adam Driver, Candice Bergen, Judd Hirsch, and Rebecca Miller. The film was produced by Scott Rudin, Baumbach, Lila Yacoub, and Eli Bush.

Baumbach is an award-winning writer, director and producer. His credits include Kicking and ScreamingThe Squid and the WhaleMargot at the WeddingGreenbergFrances HaWhile We’re Young and Mistress America. Baumbach received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for The Squid and The Whale.

Dern has won an Emmy for her performance in Big Little Lies and will likely join the second season of the HBO series. Driver, who also appears in The Meyerowitz Stories, will reprise the role of Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Johansson is currently filming Avengers: Infinity War.
