’13 Reasons Why’

Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why — currently shooting season two and starring Katherine Langford and Kate Walsh and produced by Selena Gomez — became a breakout for the streamer and launched conversations at schools nationwide about bullying, suicide, sexual harassment and rape. Even with the cast and crew well-versed in such heavy material, producers felt compelled to address the sexual harassment scandals roiling Hollywood with a refresher course.

“We’ve had meetings about it,” says Tommy Dorfman, who plays Ryan Shaver. “They want to make sure everyone knows that this is unacceptable behavior on our production and if you ever feel unsafe in any way, do not hesitate to reach out.” Dorfman, 25, adds it’s not unusual to be “warned” about certain people in the industry: “The more people are destigmatizing this and speaking out, the less of this is going to happen. And the more power that women [and] gay people get in this industry, the less I’ll have to be warned.”
