Reese Witherspoon: "We Have the Opportunity to Show the Entire Spectrum of Human Emotion that Women Have" | 'Big Little Lies' | Drama Actress Roundtable

“We aren’t just the wives and the girlfriends. We are living, breathing people,” the ‘Big Little Lies’ actress and producer told THR.

“Because there were so many women on our show, I’ve never had this experience in my life. We were on our seventh day of night shoots, and I was losing my mind,” Reese Witherspoon told The Hollywood Reporter during the Drama Actress Roundtable of filming her HBO series Big Little Lies.

After preparing each night for a big emotional scene, the production continued to bump Witherspoon’s scene to the following day. “I started to scream. I have never screamed like this. And instead of having this feeling like, “Oh my God, what did I just do?” all the women came over and were like, “Girl, I have so been there.””

Witherspoon, an Oscar winner actress in her own right (Walk the Line) has taken a successful executive producer role in recent years with films like Gone Girl, Wild, and now limited series Big Little Lies. At the age of five, she wanted to be “the first female President of the United States,” showing that the executive role is one Witherspoon was meant to fill.

“I had a female teacher and some of the boys laughed,” said Witherspoon. Her teacher replied, “I’ll be the first one to vote for you.”

More roundtables featuring comedy and drama actresses, actors, showrunners and reality creators will continue through July in print and online.
