Iron Man and The Jungle Book’s Jon Favreau will direct CBS’ Young Sheldon pilot

Young Sheldon, CBS‘ upcoming The Big Bang Theory spinoff, has today received a full season order at the network. What’s more, the show’s pilot will be directed and executive produced by none other than Iron Man and The Jungle Book helmer Jon Favreau! Created by Chuck Lorre & Steven Molaro, Young Sheldon follows Iain Armitage as a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. The half-hour, single-camera comedy will debut in the 2017-2018 season.

The Big Bang Theory debuted on CBS in 2007 and has proved a massive hit for the network. The show follows Parson’s Sheldon Cooper and Johnny Galecki’s Leonard Hofstadter. They are are brilliant physicists – geniuses in the laboratory but socially challenged everywhere else. Enter beautiful, street-smart neighbor Penny (Kaley Cuoco), who aims to teach them a thing or two about life. Despite their on-again, off-again relationship throughout the series, Leonard and Penny have finally gotten married. Even Sheldon has found a female companion, entering into a “relationship agreement” with neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik), and they recently took their relationship to the next level. In their free time, Leonard and Sheldon enjoy fantasy role-playing games with their ever-expanding universe of friends, including fellow scientists Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Wolowitz’s adorable microbiologist wife, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), who recently gave birth to their first child.

Young Sheldon also stars Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan. Jim Parsons will narrate the comedy as adult Sheldon. Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak will serve as executive producers of the series, from Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.
