John Cena confirmed for Fast and Furious 9!

Back in April Vin Diesel hinted that Fast and Furious 9 would recruit John Cena (Bumblebee, Blockers) to co-star, theoretically to fill the gap left by Dwayne Johnson. Now Deadline has confirmed that Cena will indeed join Dom Toretto and his crew, reportedly playing “a badass.”

Cena is following a similar career trajectory as Dwayne Johnson, going from WWE wrestler to “franchise Viagra” in movies. Having recently appeared in the Transformers franchise, he will soon play a part in the DC Extended Universe for The Suicide Squad, where he is rumored to portray The Peacemaker.

Fast and Furious 9 was originally set to hit theaters on April 19, but was pushed back a year to make room for the first spin-off in the series, Hobbs & Shaw, which is now scheduled to hit theaters on August 2. As a result, Fast and Furious 9 will be getting a May 22, 2020 release with Justin Lin set to return to directing in the franchise, having directed the third through sixth installments.
