According to Deadline, comedy superstar Kevin Hart (Ride Along, The Upside, Central Intelligence) is in talks with Paramount to headline and produce a Scrooged remake based on director Richard Donner’s 1988 comedy classic, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. The studio is currently out to writers to tackle the screenplay.

Voicing a role in this weekend’s The Secret Life of Pets 2, Hart is currently filming the untitled sequel to 2017’s smash Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He’s also set to star in the parenting drama Fatherhood from director Paul Weitz (Little Fockers, About a Boy).

Comedy legend Bill Murray starred in Scrooged, a take on Charles Dickens’ classic tale which has become a perennial favorite during the holidays. The film also featured an all-star cast including Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum and Alfre Woodard, and grossed $60 million dollars at the US box office in 1988.

The original film followed Frank Cross (Murray), an uncaring and unforgiving television executive whose live production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is more important than any true meaning of Christmas. Before the night is over, he takes a hilarious journey through his past and into the future to find redemption and put a little love in his heart.
