13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford to star in fantasy sci-fi film Spontaneous

13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford is set to star in the fantasy sci-fi film Spontaneous, according to Deadline. The film will be based on the young adult novel “Spontaneous” by Aaron Starmer. The book was a Time magazine Top 10 YA & Children’s Book for 2016 and an ALA Best Fiction for Young Adults selection. Spontaneous comes from writer/director Brian Duffield, writer of InsurgentJane Got a Gun and The Babysitter. He wrote and directed Vivien Hasn’t Been Herself Lately.

Langford was just nominated for a Golden Globe for her work in 13 Reasons WhySpontaneous will be produced by Matt Kaplan and Max Siemers of Awesomeness Films with Nicki Cortese from Jurassic Party Productions. Langford stars as Mara Carlye, a senior in high school who’s classmates are exploding spontaneously.

The Amazon description for the book begins: “With all the perfectly lovely young adult novels out there, you decided to check this one out? It’s got spontaneously combusting teenagers in it, dude. Not the slow burning type either. We’re talking the randomly exploding variety. Seniors in high school just walking along, heading to class, whistling Beyoncé, when—WA-BAM!— they’re suddenly dripping off the lockers. 
 
“Is that really something you’re into?”

Langford is known for playing the role of Hannah Baker in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, as well as Leah Burke in Love, Simon, Ruby in Imperfect Quadrant and Vesna in The Misguided.
