Vintage Tomorrows Movie Review

Have you ever wondered what the deal is with the steampunk movement? Me neither, but there’s now a 67-minute documentary called Vintage Tomorrows on the topic anyway. Director Byrd McDonald features various fans, authors and designers who are fascinated by steampunk (a subgenre of science fiction inspired by 19th-century technology and aesthetics), and the main purpose of the film appears to be to demonstrate that these people aren’t as weird as you may think they are. In that McDonald succeeds, but the documentary itself doesn’t have a lot of meat–though in fairness, the subject matter doesn’t interest me much.

In short: if you’ve wanted to learn more about steampunk, check out Vintage Tomorrows. If you’re just a curious bystander looking for an interesting documentary, best to redirect your attention elsewhere.

Vintage Tomorrows screened at the 2016 Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF).
