For this list, we’ll be focusing on crazy characters from cartoon series and not anime, as we’ve already got a list for that!
#10: Roberto
“Futurama” (1999-2013)
This robot may not be hell-bent on taking over the world, but be sure to steer clear of him when there are sharp objects within reach. Because of a troubled childhood and a design goal to be made insane, Roberto has adopted a criminal lifestyle along with an affinity for stabbing people. In fact, he’s robbed a number of banks and has proven there is no criminal institute fortified enough to hold him. Being a product of his own engineers has granted Roberto an excuse for his unstableness, but it still doesn’t help those around him to be any less frightened by his presence.
#9: Rat King
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (1987-96)
Spending your life in a New York City sewer system would probably have you a bit disturbed as well. The Rat King has earned his name through his uncanny ability to telepathically communicate with the furry rodents. His seclusion from society has allowed him to inherit a human-hating complex, as his grand scheme is to one-day build a rat empire large enough to take over the world. No one has ever been able to see the Rat King’s actual face, as he keeps it – and his body – bandaged.
#8: Carnage
“Spider-Man” (1994-98)
This is your brain. This is your brain attached to an alien symbiote. To be quite honest, Cletus Kasady was completely off his rocker even before being introduced to the symbiote’s power. After being locked away in the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane for his heinous murders, Kasady was approached by the Carnage symbiote with the promise of infinite power and an escape from his imprisonment. Taking on the identity of the supervillain only allowed the deranged criminal to mass-murder on an even larger scale without any inhibitions. Carnage derives pure pleasure from killing the innocent, and is regarded as one of the most lethal villains Spider-Man has ever encountered.
#7: Azula
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” (2005-08)
War can sometimes bring out the worst in people, especially those with mommy and daddy issues. Wanting nothing more than to succeed her father as Fire Lord, Azula took on his sadistic and violent nature in an attempt to impress him. Being betrayed by her two best friends and defeated by her brother in combat pushed the fire-bending prodigy into a state of mental unstableness, forcing her to enter a mental institution. A simple hug may go a long way with this power hungry tyrant.
#6: Sideshow Bob
“The Simpsons” (1989-)
After falling into a sidekick role on Krusty the Clown’s television show, this Springfield resident entertained kids for years. However, the mistreatment Bob suffered on the show, along with his disdain for Krusty, eventually led him to frame the host for armed robbery. When his secret was revealed by Bart Simpson, Bob was then convicted, causing him to swear revenge on the boy who helped ruin his life. After his release from prison, Bob made numerous attempts on Bart’s life, as well as on the lives of those close to the Simpson kid. But as long as there are rakes around, everyone should be safe.
#5: Barry Dylan
“Archer” (2009-)
As far as arch-nemeses go, just be happy that yours isn’t a murderous cyborg. While we love the show’s other nut ISIS researcher Dr. Kreiger, Barry is the crazy person to beat. He harbors a strong hatred for Sterling Archer, which began when the ISIS agent had sex with Barry’s then girlfriend/fiancée Framboise. Then, after a life-threatening fall, courtesy of Archer of course, Barry was rebuilt with lethal mechanical parts and became the head of the KGB, making revenge against his rival the end-all subject of conversation. The operation has also left Barry a bit more unstable than previously perceived, as he’s often seen referring to himself as ‘Other Barry,’ or speaking to inanimate objects.
#4: Earl of Lemongrab
“Adventure Time” (2010-)
Being the ruler of your own kingdom could drive anyone to insanity, especially when you make up all of its inhabitants. Lemongrab is a total social pariah and is isolated from the rest of Candy Kingdom for this exact reason. His incoherent anger and frustration disable him from functioning in normal society, consequently inspiring others to stay away from him. Lemongrab’s tragic loneliness has also caused him to hit mental breaking points, as seen when he attempts to punish those around him with his false sense of power.
#3: Hexadecimal
“ReBoot” (1994-2001)
Good luck protecting your computer program from this menacing super virus. Hexadecimal resides on the secluded island of Lost Angles and is normally removed from the happenings of Mainframe, which most are grateful for. She is known for being extremely powerful and unpredictable, as can be seen by her tendency to change moods by instantaneously switching her masks. With almost infinite reserves of power and all the time in the world, Hexadecimal simply wants to see her world in chaos, and to be the one to cause it.
#2: Joker
“Batman: The Animated Series” (1992-95)
Crime is just a lot more fun when you have a masked vigilante trying to bring you to justice at every turn. Here’s a villain that embraces his psychosis as a coping mechanism for his twisted outlook on life. The complex part of the Joker is that there’s no end goal to his transgressions, as committing atrocities is just something he’s declared himself born to do. The Clown Prince of Crime is largely identified and disguised by his menacing grin, white face makeup, and unnerving laugh that redefine the term dark humor.

#1: Eric Cartman
“South Park” (1997-)
What’s the number one identifier that someone you know is a psychopath? A total lack of human empathy. Or in other words, anyone who emulates this kid. All of those unlucky enough to be forced into this grade schooler’s presence have at one point expressed their disdain or even eternal hatred for him. Whether it’s due to his own insecurities or for his own entertainment, Cartman takes pleasure in putting others down and emotionally scarring them any way he can. Through his devious manipulation skills, Cartman has been able to make others concur with his prejudiced views, and even excuse his delinquent behavior. But perhaps his greatest success is convincing his friends that he’s a normal functioning human being.
