Sometimes—most times—sequels are not worth the time, and the same holds true with documentaries. Tiny: The Story of Erin Blackwell is the follow-up to the 1984 documentary Streetwise, which was nominated for an Oscar, and examines what has become of the 13-year-old star, now struggling with ten (10!) children, some of whom may be following in her footsteps.
I’ve never seen Streetwise, but judging by the amount of time director Martin Bell spends showing old footage and having his subjects “reminisce” on the past, that documentary was much more interesting—this one didn’t hold my attention in the slightest.
Tiny: The Story of Erin Blackwell is a selection of the 2016 Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF).
