The Twilight Zone Revival Starts Production With a Retrospective Video

“You open this door with the key of imagination.” Almost sixty years ago, Rod Serling uttered those words while introducing each episode of The Twilight Zone. Next year, the series will live again with Jordan Peele as the new host. The Twilight Zone revival started filming earlier this month, and CBS All Access couldn’t resist sharing the news. There’s even a brand new announcement video for the occasion, which you can see below.

If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the new series, there really isn’t much to see yet. We only know that the first episode has at least once scene set in a diner. Many classic episodes of the original show shared that setting. For the most part, this video is a walk down memory lane. Serling’s unmistakable voice carries us through a greatest hits selection of the show’s famous twist endings. But by the end of the clip, Peele’s voice takes over the narration as he leads the viewer into the new era for The Twilight Zone.

This will be the third time that The Twilight Zone has been revived since the original series ended in 1964. After a theatrical adaptation in 1983, a new Twilight Zone debuted in 1985 before running for three seasons. Forest Whitaker hosted the third incarnation of the series on UPN, but it ran for only a single season.

Peele’s success with Get Out allowed him to the freedom to choose his next projects, and he will take a very active role in bringing The Twilight Zone back to life. He’ll be joined by X-Men producer and director Simon Kinberg, who also serves as an executive producer on the series. Production is currently underway in Vancouver, and The Twilight Zone revival is expected to premiere in 2019 on CBS All Access.
