The 33rd annual ceremony took place in Santa Monica on Saturday.
Sam Rockwell took home the award for best supporting actor at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards for his performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
“Thank you to the entire independent film community. You’re my people. You’re my family,” said the actor. “I’ve been in 932 independent films,” he joked.
Rockwell also thanked his co-stars, including Frances McDormand. “Thank you for pushing me to be my best,” he said. “And that goes the same for Woody Harrelson, this entire cast.”
The actor beat out Nnamdi Asomugha (Crown Heights), Armie Hammer (Call Me by Your Name), Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer) and Benny Safdie (Good Time) for the honor.
John Mulaney and Nick Kroll returned as hosts for the 33rd annual Independent Spirit Awards, which took place in Santa Monica on Saturday afternoon.
