Jimmy Fallon Pens "Thank You Notes" to Winter Olympics on Shortened 'Tonight Show'

The Roots’ Tariq Trotter also performed a Pyeongchang 2018 recap rap on Friday’s edition of the “Fallon Five” segment.

In another edition of his long-running “Thank You Notes” skit, Jimmy Fallon reminisced about the best moments from this year’s Winter Games on Friday’s “Fallon Five,” the shortened version of The Tonight Show during which the host does a set for five minutes in between NBC’s Olympics slate.

Penning a note to freestyle skiing, he said, “Thank you for being the only event where I can’t tell if everything is going just right or horribly wrong.”

In another tribute to Olympic athletes in general, Fallon joked, “Thank you for spending years competing for a medal that you can’t ever actually wear without looking like a total showoff.” He penned said letter with a picture of ice-dancing pair, siblings and social media stars Maia and Alex Shibutani in the background.

Referencing the character made famous by Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Fallon said, “Thank you, [snowboarder] Red Gerard, for showing me what it would look like if Spicoli won a gold medal.”

He also gave shout-outs to two-person luge (“Extreme spooning”), snowboarding (“The only time parents are cool with kids hitting the pipe”), ski jumping (“Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ dance as a sport”) and more.

The bit ended with a rap by The Roots’ Tariq Trotter that recapped the best moments from the 2018 Games. Watch the clip below.
