'Game of Thrones' Must-See Moment: It's Time For "No One" To Die

Even with blindness long behind her, Arya now finds herself in darker waters than ever before.

Arya (Maisie Williams), the youngest of the Stark sisters, still lives in Braavos… but for how long? 

The former Faceless Men trainee suffered several stabbings in the latest episode of Game of Thrones, “The Broken Man,” after failing to assassinate a theater performer who didn’t deserve to die — at least not in Arya’s eyes. But the young wolf’s justice is damnation in the eyes of the Many-Faced God, as Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) allowed the Waif (Faye Marsay) to track down and kill Arya, leaving any rogue secrets from the House of Black and White to die with her.

There’s no question that Arya is bleeding and broken right now, but that doesn’t mean she’s out. The preview for the upcoming episode of Thrones sees Arya leaping from a balcony’s edge, suggesting that she’s not finished just yet — though, potentially, she’s close. Indeed, the episode title itself, “No One,” strongly implies a heavy focus on Arya, as it’s the same name she tried to adopt but ultimately rejected during her Faceless days. In the end, Arya is Arya, for better or worse… and with any luck, it’s going to be a lot better for Arya, and a whole lot worse for everyone who stands in her way.

Before the season began, Williams previewed her character’s season six journey, and made it clear that Arya “will learn the most valuable lesson she has learned and will ever have learned. She’s going to develop a skill that’s going to come in handy and will benefit her for a very, very long time. I guess the people who are training her are going to almost create a bit of a monster. They’re going to give away all of their best-kept secrets, and she’s going to ultimately use that to her advantage.”

Williams’ phrasing suggests that perhaps things aren’t as dire for the young wolf as they seem, whether that’s because Arya is more than capable of engineering an escape from her grisly situation, or she’s already in the process of a plan — her own, or someone else’s. One strong theory posits that Arya actually passed her Jaqen H’ghar’s test by not assassinating Lady Crane, while the Waif’s desire for vengeance against Arya marks her own inevitable Faceless failure.

In any event, the action-packed nature of the trailer, the episode’s title, and the circumstances in Braavos all push the thinking toward one direction: No One will die in “No One.” Whether that’s Arya, the Waif, Jaqen or another face entirely remains to be seen — but it certainly won’t be “no one” in the traditional sense.
