FX's Legion Will Be Connected to Future X-Men Movies

Back in October, we reported that two new X-Men TV shows are moving forward, Legion at FX and Hellfire on Fox. However, Fox recently canceled Hellfire in favor of an untitled X-Men series. The initial announcement confirmed that Legion will be set in the X-Men movie universe, and today we have more details that reveal the show will actually affect the movie world in a unique way.

After the initial announcement, Legion series creator Noah Hawley stated that Legion is not set within the continuity of the X-Men universe as it currently stands. Now it seems that Legion is definitaly connected to future movies in teh X-Men saga. Producer Bryan Singer and Fox Networks CEO Peter Rice appeared at the Edinburgh Television Festival, during a panel entitled “Gamechangers.” The Hollywood Reporter reports that during that panel, Bryan Singer confirmed both Legion and the untitled Fox show are part of the overall universe, and that they will tie into upcoming movies. Here’s what he had to say.

“(It’s) part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn’t have to label it, it could exist completely on its own. (They) will relate to future X-Men movies (with a) really ambitious and fun and very unique storyline.”

It’s worth noting that it was recently rumored that Legion may not only be connected to the X-Men movie universe, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after a Marvel article mentioned Legion along with MCU shows like Luke Cage. But that rumor hasn’t been confirmed. The series centers on David Haller, played by Dan Stevens. Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

The supporting cast includes Rachel Keller as the female lead, alongside Aubrey Plaza as David’s friend Lenny, who is struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, and Jean Smart as a therapist with unconventional methods. The show was given an eight-episode series order back in May, with a debut set for 2017. Stay tuned for more on FX’s Legion and Fox’s untitled X-Men series as soon as more details surface.
